It's the Kenyan Kalendjin for marathons and then also the most noam-chomsky-as-of-today-looking rich white guy on a 10.000€ bicycle. Interesting split!

There's this meemaw who always spends her mornings walking around a local park. She'll pick up cigarette butts and fish hooks, trim bushes, just whatever needs doing. Apparently an 11 year tradition for her.

Today she stopped me to chat for the first time as I was picking up some fishing line. We had a nice little conversation about how important it is to protect birds and how poorly the city does so. I was just about to describe how much I also care about the local wildlife and how important stewardship is.

Within two minutes she's pointing at a bike lane and asks me if I support that. I say "Yeah, I commute on it and it's a lot safer than it used to be". She launches into a rant about how one bike can cause a 4 mile traffic jam and she wishes they'd tear out all of the bike lanes. We have a visible air pollution layer from car exhaust being trapped by the local topography, making the air so dangerous that her demographic is specifically warned against going outside for most of the summer. Okay.

Next came climate change. When she was a kid in the 40s they taught civics. Now kids are just told what to think. The climate changes cyclically and we've found fish fossils in Wyoming. People are so afraid of a perfectly natural cycle. She doesn't care if they're liberal, conservative, whatever. They're taught social studies instead of civics and it makes them believe in stuff like this.

Then vaccines. She was a nurse and couldn't work in medicine these days with that COVID vaccine shit they're forcing on young people like me. It doesn't even work and they fire nurses if they don't get it. She wishes she could get all the nurses together and collectively bargain because they can't fire everyone for refusing to get the vaccine. She's 84.

Sometimes I see a nice old person doing something good for their community and for a brief second I think "that's probably not a rabid reactionary who wants to spend their last years salting the earth". Then they speak and I remember that this is the Burger Reich. Death to America.

This article is 8 years old, but the article about a Catholic healthcare provider denying MAID services reminded me of it. i learned about it from a friend who is a researcher of medical/healthcare policy in the US.

Basically, when Catholic hospitals merge or are even bought out by secular providers in the states, the Catholic church inserts language into the contract (the property becomes "encumbered" I think is the term) to require facilities to follow / adopt Catholic restrictions in perpetuity. These restrictions can never be unwound and are generally hidden from public knowledge during the deal.

Since 2001, the number of acute care hospitals operating under Catholic doctrine has shot up 22 percent.

As Mindy Swank discovered, it’s often impossible to know when a secular hospital is operating under Catholic restrictions. Genesis became a zombie religious hospital in 1994, during a merger with Catholic Mercy Hospital in Davenport, Iowa. The trend has accelerated in recent years, as secular hospitals have joined forces with Catholic facilities in an effort to hold their own against insurance companies and to comply with requirements for greater collaboration under the Affordable Care Act. In five states—Alaska, Iowa, South Dakota, Washington, and Wisconsin—more than 40 percent of acute care hospital beds now fall under Catholic doctrine.

I’ve been at my current job for 10 months now, manager who hired me was my manager at last job for like a year. He is pushing me to take a “team lead” job but ive always refused those in every other job ive been in. Seems like theyre always stressed, and like its not worth the headaches. Im very OCD about work and never call in, which my bosses see and are like “omg, youre such a good worker. Youd make a good boss right” which…no. Im super non confrontational and am terrible and social cues lmao.

Im happy just riding out where im at. I get good benefits, already paid well, and have no kids. Why tf add stress?

New York State will probably go red at some point in the next twenty years. It’s got an incredibly rare combination of some of the wealthiest capitalists in the country living in the same electorate as some of the poorest and most disillusioned. People forget that Trump was born, raised, and became wealthy in this state. That it has one of the most overfunded police departments on the planet. This kind of rhetoric would be expected from someone like desantis, but instead it’s coming from New York. Crazy.

naive: "today I will read about chips and dip...a yakub psyop to manufacture desires in a libidinal economy????"

its amazing how a list of "American culture" is just disgusting garbage that corporations brainwashed them into enjoying. Like peanut butter which is of course a chalky tasteless food without all those unhealthy fats and salt/sugar

https://www.eater.com/2016/12/2/13799660/bologna-sandwich-recipe-history

We also might shudder at the bologna sandwiches we were forced to eat, with their cold, slippery, overly thick slices. We protest — even riot — over the indignity of consuming bologna. "It’s been inserted into the national psyche of despicable foods, laughable foods," says Amy Bentley, professor of food studies at New York University. "‘That’s baloney, that’s crazy.’ That’s how we think of it. It’s been embedded in our brains that way."

"its crazy to be an authentic human with a soul who doesn't believe whatever Oscar Mayer's corporate advertisements say! You must be brainwashed by Russian propaganda to think Lunchables being served in schools is disgusting abomination. Actually, kids learn better if they don't have a cafeteria at their school serving actual food. We need to privatize and defund schools even more so they can't afford to pay for a single cafeteria worker" - finance imperialist PMC demons

Bologna was one of the more accessible meats of the early 20th century. It kept well and, most importantly during the Great Depression and the war-rationing era, it was cheap. Made out of discarded or fatty parts of meat, even organ meat in some places, bologna was more affordable than ham or salami. And other meats like turkey and roast beef were not easily produced and therefore less available to consumers, says Jason Falter, co-owner of Falters Meats in Columbus, Ohio.

the ideal, highly processed wage slave food, which they later exported to kids in their "future wage slave traning" schools

In the mid-20th century, the rise of the packaged food industry transformed bologna sandwiches into a shared cultural experience. Bologna became available on a mass scale as meatpackers began selling packaged and pre-sliced deli meats in supermarkets, an invention that the New York Times extolled as a time saver for homemakers. "It’s a truly industrial product," says Bentley, explaining that packaged foods like bologna took on a cultural cachet as consumers saw those goods as cleaner than meat at the butcher shop.

"consumers saw those goods as cleaner " the soy neoliberals who wrote this were unable to talk about the million dollar advertising agency that was doing propaganda techniques to psyop people to have this belief.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chips_and_dip

The popularity of chips and dip significantly increased in the United States during the 1950s, beginning circa 1954, due to changes in styles of entertaining in the suburbs and also due to a Lipton advertising campaign based upon using Lipton's instant dehydrated onion soup mix to prepare dip.

"suburbs" segregated nazi settler Karen NPC culture

Chips and salsa, typically served using tortilla or corn chips, is a common type of chips and dip dish that gained significant popularity in the United States in the late 1980s.
