Rules

  1. Please stay on-topic: post about automation and factory builder games. There is some wiggle room; there always is when it comes to game genres, but some things clearly do not fit (Pong, a post asking what car you should buy in real life) and will be removed.
  2. Don’t be a jerk. This covers bigotry and discrimination, which includes but is not limited to homophobia, racism, sexism, etc.
  3. Please don’t directly link to pirated content.
  4. When advertising something you have worked on (think your own automation game review website, or an automation game you have worked on), please use common sense for what is spammy. If there’s about four new posts here weekly, don’t post a progress update weekly—we don’t want self-promotion overwhelming the community. But finding new automation game creators is cool, so do post them here every once in awhile! I reserve the right to change this rule to be more specific about what exactly counts as spammy and what does not, but I feel I’ll know it when I see it and trust most posters to operate in good faith.
  5. Please indicate spoilers. The following format works on both Lemmy and Kbin, but if you are using an app it may not. See this comment for which apps handle spoilers. Note that spoilers in post bodies will just show the text in the preview if you link the post in, say, Discord, instead of spoiling it.
Spoilers for SomeAutomationGameSomething that happened at the end of the game! Something else that happened at the end of the game!

Previously posted this as a comment here, figured it could be its own top-level post. TL;DR: I notice my own points of friction and complain about them while assuring the reader I did actually report bugs as appropriate, but enjoyed the game a lot, especially the Cutter module where you do a lot of assembly of the cube-like pieces. Here it is:

Trying the demo to see if this stays on my wishlist or gets unceremoniously booted.

Graphics appeal in a… "sciencey" way I guess? I like them, but I'm not sure how to describe what about them is tickling my brain in the right way.

Tutorial:

Welcome Unit Gr0_P1uS. Let's run a test protocol on your sensors. Try adjusting your camera:

(and then it lists camera controls for me)

I guess I'm a computer lol. Oddly charmed by this.

I made a big mistake already by placing things in the wrong rotation, and wasn't sure how to remove them or rotate them again, and the game sure did not tell me, so I just started the tutorial all over.

Controls say I can use T to mirror when I'm putting stuff down. My T key is functioning but T does not seem to actually do anything. Maybe that's for things I unlock later? ~~Will report it if I go through the whole demo and it still appears to do nothing.~~ It works on the Harvester Pad, so maybe the other things were just symmetrical enough for me to not notice anything.

This might just be a "me and my small display and the fact most people don't actively prefer smaller screens to bigger ones" problem but tutorial text is great and legible normally, but after completing a tutorial the colored text shows up sooooo badly. Went and reported that.

Some of the tutorial had me a bit confused for a few seconds, not sure what to do, but I figured it out. But overall I feel too stupid for video game tutorials nowadays, so YMMV.

After the tutorial is a little picture of tubes with "GOOD SPAGHETTI" written in it.

The GNN doesn't appreciate inefficient design, don't make a mess.

Definitely a playful jab at spaghetti factories, appreciated. Although the picture is a bit confusing to me, my assumption is that because "GOOD" and "SPAGHETTI" are separated there would be an example of good organization near GOOD and bad near SPAGHETTI, and instead it's just tubes with the phrase GOOD SPAGHETTI.

Game seems fascinating and fun enough (especially configuring/entering the Cutter module!) for me to excuse the problems I did have, but I am not too good at describing them. It stays on my wishlist!

A little different than what usually gets posted here, but hey, it has automation. If you think it doesn't belong, Rule 1 is

Please stay on-topic: post about automation and factory builder games. There is some wiggle room; there always is when it comes to game genres, but some things clearly do not fit (Pong, a post asking what car you should buy in real life) and will be removed.

If you think this clearly does not fit and I have horribly misjudged, feel free to report. If I get enough reports/downvotes I'll take it as a sign it really does not belong and remove my post :)

On this post I made for Node Math, another numbers factory game, I said I should probably post Beltmatic someday. Today is that day!

Workers & Resources: Soviet Republic is a cross between an automation game and a city builder, with relatively complex logistics for a city builder. I am particularly fond of the organic, demand-based logistical challenges of distributing resources to meet the needs of your citizens, and managing realistic mode construction.

The upcoming DLC adds more buildings, vehicles, and a tech overhaul to allow starting the game in the 1930s.

Edit: caveat for those interested in the game: it uses undisclosed AI "art".
