So ddg is down, so I visit Google. It's been some years.

I just can't believe how poor it's results are, and how it's trying to suggest things it think I might also want (and failing miserably).

I just assumed ddg would be the lesser, but I use it for privacy. Turns out I'm wrong.

How long has Google been this bad?

Search engines down? (discuss.tchncs.de)

Is it just me or are many independent search engines down? Duckduckgo, my go to engine, qwant, ecosia, startpage... All down? The only hint I got was on the qwant page...

Edit: it all seems to be related to bing being down. I hope the independent engines will find a way to get really independent...

I've used "hot" for a long while but recently changed to "active". I honestly can't say the difference between them.

You can come up with the details on the kind of collapse.

That site allowed musicians to create and upload music and then other musicians could rate, critique, and collaborate on said music. You could even download tunes and I've got SO much great music still on my phone from those artists. And, it was a fun, supportive community.

I apologize for spamming all the Ask Lemmy communities. I can delete if desired. Or, post in a more appropriate community.

Not that I'm having this issue, but my wife and I are considering a second kid and this is a thought I've had.

Of the things available to most of us, what are common and the oldest things we might find on a store shelf?

So I'm talking about playing previously Windows-only games on Linux, e.g. via proton.

I don't know about the libraries etc that are used - is it possible for Microsoft to use some legal voodoo, for example, to suddenly end it all, and make the use of their libraries illegal (if they belong to Microsoft in the first place)?

Or could there be other ways of interference?
