About to move out from my parents and found the old Remix mini lying around collecting dust. Thought it might be possible to use it as a backup PC for light web surfing and YouTube when I'm back at home. Is that concept possible in 2023? If it is, what should I be prepared for and what to expect?

I am curious to hear from people who started vaping without having smoked beforehand.

I'm curious about these things - feel free to respond to as many or as few of them as you wish. Primarily I am thinking about nicotine, but feel free to reply if you vape something different.

  1. What age were you when you started vaping? Feel free to reply with a vague range (e.g. 12-15) or description (e.g. young teen / adult)

  2. Why did you start?

  3. Do you regret having ever started? If so, why do you regret it?

  4. Have you noticed any long-term negative health effects from vaping?

  5. Do you feel that the socialogical and/or legal issues around vaping are more or less of a concern than health effects? (e.g. having to go outside to vape, vaping being banned/restricted in certain places/situations/countries, the risks of vaping being more legally controlled in future, etc.)

  6. Do you feel that the financial cost of vaping is more or less of a concern than the health effects?

No need to follow the numbered format or anything, this isn't a survey, I'm just looking for answers to these questions for my own personal curiosity! Also, feel free to add any more information that you wish!

Please only share from your personal experience - no links to news stories or studies, please.

Also, not interested in responses from ex-smokers, sorry - those can be found in huge volume already.

Im pretty confident in driving abilities for taking the test this week with nearly two months of driving with someone else. My only real issue with taking my drivers test is that its my understanding sometimes DMVs have a secret everyone fails once policy, or some instructors do. I'm mainly wondering on average in the US low long did people have to wait.

With the simultaneous rollout of restrictions on account sharing and price increases/addition of advertising, I’m cutting back severely on streaming services.

I allowed my streaming subscriptions to grow without thinking about it. Without trying to remember the constant merging and bundling, I was subscribed to probably a dozen services at one point. They ranged from Netflix and HBO and Hulu to Shudder and Showtime. I had Paramount, Criterion, Disney, Peacock, and others. I’d do the typical thing where I’d search for a movie, find it is exclusive to a platform, and grab the free trial and forget to cancel. I excused it if I found a movie even every couple of months on it. There were still nights where it’d take an hour to find something I wanted to watch. I was probably closing in on $200/month all told, and I don’t have sports subscriptions.

I’m interested in learning what other people are doing regarding the price hikes and service compromises. Are you cancelling? Are you taking advantage of bundles with your internet services? Are you rotating on some interval? Or are you not changing at all?

Curiosity only.

Here in Brazil it's very common to have several showers a day. I, for example, take two. The first is when I wake up, before I go to work, and the second is when I get home from work. I wake up at 6.30am and get home at 8pm.

edit: I said bath, but I meant shower.

my biggest issue was the bullet sponging and totally unbalanced combat, youd either be a god that couldnt die or someone who has to land 50 headshots with a sniper rifle to kill someone

I'll start.

My then gf and I had a chihuahua that just happened to be the most tiny and most diva and most clever little dog I've ever met. Tiny, incredibly cute, extreme ego and confidence, a terrible piercing bark and had some wild mood swings on top. He'd go from cuddly to nuclear warfare in a second of something displeased him. He was the eldest and the leader of his little pack and he kept all of them wrapped right around his paw running a little dogmatic terror state. But he took his responsibilities seriously and was always up in front if there was a threat to them. Be it an angry German shepherd or a double parked electric scooter. Nobody messed with his pack - except for him, obviously.

Our little beast was very well aware of his cuteness, and his craving for adoration knew no end. He'd be walking down the street next to me, obviously refusing to yield for anyone, and as we pass some café tables, he'd throw himself flat on the ground, legs pointing in all directions. We called it that he did a doormat. The intent was to throw us under the bus as his keepers so that he'd maximize the aahs and oohs and attention went compliments from the people sitting in the café.

But this is just the backstory. He was vain, and we knew he was clever, but also of this is still learned behaviour with a previously verified outcome.

No, what really set it apart was that one time we were at home, the entire couch occupied by humans, dogs, and generally not him in particular. He was strutting around, being grumpy that others had taken his rightful seat, and nobody would disappear into nothingness for his approval. Not an uncommon thing, but he has plenty of other comfy spaces to be, communal and his very own. We know if we lift him up now, he'll try force some other dog down just because he wants space for himself, and we weren't having it. The other dogs were there first today and it's their right as much, so tough luck bud.

After some time, I notice him staring into the lights off bedroom. He looks at me, turns back to the bedroom and just keeps staring at it. I tell my gf that he is staring into the void and it seems to be staring back at him. We watch him as he keeps staring at nothing.

By now he is an old dog and has already shown signs of deterioration. I ask him what's up and he shows some signs of anxiety, tail down, tapping feet, mild whimper. I call for him, there's nothing there, come to daddy. No response. We figure he's lost it now, the creeping senility we've suspected is real.

So I keep talking to him, calming him, approach to turn on the lights and show him around that there is nothing there. He stands eagerly waiting, full focus on me as I come closer. Then - tail high, he runs as fast his tiny legs can carry his body, to the seat where I was sitting, barking at my gf to be picked up into the couch.

And it dawns on me. It was all a ruse! He came up with the clever plan to lure me away from his desired spot. If he acts anxious I'll get worried and get up, freeing up a vacancy on the couch, and then it's a fair race who gets it first. His smug posture standing in my seat was what gave it away. He was not anxious at all, he was not afraid, that I'm not anthropomorphizing but that he knew exactly what he was doing.

A multi step sequential plan with a clear goal in mind that he came up with from no be prior training. If that is not intelligence, I don't know what is.

As the title says. I thought that was brilliant on Reddit, just checking people's profiles would lead to some cool discoveries of communities I would have never thought of by myself.

Is this a feature somewhere?

Edit: of course users have the option to not show these, no I don't want to violate anyone's privacy

I just finished a proof of concept web app that emulates the same concept introduced by reddit place app: a shared pixel board.

Front-End: Flutter

Back-End: FastAPI, Uvicorn, SQLite, Pillow

Here you can try the beta

App Usage: Zoom In and Out the view, touch a pixel to bring up a color palette, select a color and voila, pixel's color has been changed!

Color palette menu only works if zoomed in more than 50% of the image

Front End design is a two layer view, background layer is loaded with a PNG of the pixel board, new changes are drawn over in the forebackground using canvas

This decision was to optimize bandwidth consumption, the grid is 1000x1000, that gives us 1 million pixels, sending the current grid as a PNG file weight 1.9mbs, which is better than sending a gzip json that weights 4.4mbs for coordinates and colors.

Also, flutter app design has to be imperative, that means, the view is going to be refreshed many times per second, if device screen can run 60fps, the view is going to be refresed 60 times.

Rendering the whole view painting 1 million pixels on canvas takes about 2 to 4 seconds, rekt, but loading a png is really fast.

I also implemented websockets so users can see live changes

webserver refreshes PNG file every 2 minutes.

Im open to suggestions, i will upload the code once a do some cleaning and do proper documentation.

Issue - I have 282 .CR2(raw) photos that need to be converted in batch/mass to same time but don't know how. OS - Vanilla OS 22.10 (Ubuntu)

  • Can this be done with darktable? If so how?
  • Any software recommendations for this? I rather not use online tools for privacy and compression reasons.
