Specially the ones where you have to find stuff.

I usually attempt and manage to get them without looking up any info, but other times I miss something and I don't want to go thru the tedious process of re-combing whole sections of the levels, or even starting over, just to find some stupid note that I overlooked. Yet, I want the achievement, so I end up looking a guide and I feel like I haven't truly earned the achievent.

Yes, I know that playing a videogame shouldn't become a task and that I simply should play it the way I enjoy it the most, but I want too see what others think.

When thinking about the most important moment(s) of your life, do you still feel the full range of emotion associated with that memory? What if you keep recalling the same memory many times, does the intensity of emotion fade?

I've had a certain debate a few times where you might say we argue over the "semantics" of the meat industry.

I am what you would call a vegetarian. While vegetarians won't eat things that caused harm to produce, a vegan won't eat anything having to do with an animal. A lot of those who would fall under the latter category hate us because they say anything that remotely resembles someone enjoying an animal product is supporting the meat industry which then kills animals, which means merely eating an animal product makes someone a murderer.

Meanwhile, there's this concept many call piracy. It's the idea that, as the meme proverbially puts it, "you can download a car". The idea here, which I say in the way I do because there's still an ongoing debate about it, is that it affects nobody. But then there's the whole industry thing I mentioned. People on the other side of the debate often say "well what about the industry". I'm not sure where on the scale in this topic you might put me, but I feel like there's a glaring contradiction here. When it comes to animals, people think of the industry, but otherwise that's not a factor.

My question is... why?

I’m thinking about proposing to my girl, however we both think diamonds as a standard is stupid and overrated, we both prefer much more colorful and comparatively cheaper gemstones like rubies and sapphires, but I’m having trouble finding a good place for that, I’ve never done this before, any ideas?

I've been cleaning up my home office and found 2 pretty old smartphones in a box, around 10 years old I'd say. I don't have any old chargers to check if they still work so I'm unsure what sort of data is on there, if any, or if they still charge up even.

What are the chances I can safely dispose of them at a recycling center, without risk of anyone trying to check into the phone? None of them can have the battery removed so I don't want to just smash them with a hammer.

I swear every mobile site is absolute garbage that runs like ass on phones.

I'm looking for easy-to-listen-to fiction audiobooks. Something I can tune in while doing other stuff without getting distracted.

I find some authors have styles that are a bit more sophisticated than others. The more thought-provoking, the more difficult I find to enjoy an audiobook while doing something else. I catch myself stopping whatever I'm doing to pay attention to the book, which is not what I want.

So for example I've found The Witcher books very easy to listen to, it wouldn't matter if I missed a few seconds and I never found myself stopping to ponder about the text itself. The narrator was great too. Also bonus points as it was a long saga of books.

In contrast I would never want to listen to a Terry Pratchett book while doing something else. He's probably my favourite English author but I find he's too much of a genius, and my poor brain wouldn't be able to digest it all if I'm not giving it my attention 100%.

I hope this makes sense?

How's your experience with audiobooks?

Good Morning everybody, I'm looking for some prompts for Stability XL. I'm already using the ones I've found on https://publicprompts.art and I would know if you know other similar sites.

Thanks in advance

So I have a pretty severe peanut allergy which means Ive never purposely ate a peanut and have therefore never tasted one without being in panic mode. People have told me that they taste like regular nuts which just makes me more confused. If you were given a selection of other nuts like cashews and almonds, what would compel you to go out of your way for peanuts? A lot of my friends who like them can't even explain why they like them.

I know that most people like them salted or roasted. Is it just a fidget exercise when you eat them plain?

Hi! I see the indicators how comments are there for posts, but if i want to view them, i see only few, or none at all, but an infite loading indicator. I know i have to open comment threads, but either way, the indicator shows there should be waaay more comments than i see. Why is that? Im using Connect client, but also same if i open my instance from a web browser. Switched instance too, all the same. For example the indicator shows 337 comment for the post, but if i open i see 2 comment threads, with around 10 comments overall. Other case, it shows 1 comment, then if i open, i see "No comments". Also, mostly if i see "View more (x)" and i tap on them, no more appears there, just this view more disappears. My blocking list is empty, no defederated instance comments. I see this problem on 99% of post, if there are comments on it.

Edit: Now i dont even see the first comment, only i could read it in my notifications. see how it looks like for example

Asking specifically because of the situation over at !worldnews. I see that recently, there has been an open call for moderators - https://lemmy.ml/post/5277453 - with the following requirements:

"You have to be on the lemmy.ml instance" and "Should have a history of activity here"

Are these the only requirements really? Because I think that moderators have quite some extraordinary power within a community, to the point that they can just censor whatever is unpleasant to their personal opinion, as if it were violating the community's rules when in fact it's not.

(For instance, see the modlog over at !worldnews https://lemmy.ml/modlog/14788 - where everyone expressing doubts about the justification to call "genocide" the Israeli reaction to the Hamas terror attacks is banned. I just think that moderators should show some sense of the actual power they possess and be careful to exhibit it. As in the case above, despite the atrocities of war, there's good reason not to speak of genocide - and even if that's not the moderators' opinion, expressing doubt about the justification to call it so does not violate the community's rules.)

How do you say something like that?

"There's a thing for which I don't know what it is" "There's a thing where I don't know what it is" "There's a thing that I don't know what is"

or (the one which I hear people say a lot but sounds awkward:) "There's a thing that/which I don't know what it is"?

To be honest they all sound awkward to me to varying degrees

Modified post. Read the edit at the buttom.

Now, call me crazy, I don't think so! I have been an addict and I know how it is to be an addict, but I don't think sugar is as addictive as cocaine. And I really am frustrated with people who say such things.

This notion that it's as addictive drives me crazy! I mean, imagine someone gullible who says, well, "I can control my addiction to ice cream, heck I can go without ice cream for months, if it's as addictive as cocaine, why not give cocaine a chance? It's not like it's gonna destroy me or something?" Yeah, I have once been this gullible (when I was younger) and I hate this.

I do crave sugar and I do occasionally (once per week and sometimes twice a month) buy sugary treats/lays packet (5 Indian Rupees, smallest one) to quench that craving, but I refuse to believe that it is as addictive as cocaine or any other drugs. PS: My last lays packet was 45 ago and I am fine, and this is the most addictive substance I have consumed.

I am pretty some people here have been addicted to cocaine (truly no judgement, I hope you are sober now), so what say you?

PS: If you haven't been addicted to anything drastic as drugs, you are still welcome to chip in.

edit: thank you all for adding greater context.

I realize now that when they talk about sugar, they are not just talking abt lays and ice creams, but sugar in general. I get the studies now. But media is doing a terrible job of reporting on studies.

Also, the media depiction of scientific studies is really the worst. I mean, they make claims which garbage and/or incomplete data or publish articles on studies which make more alarming claims. Also, maybe wait for a consensus before you publish anything, i.e., don't publish anything which isn't peer reviewed and replicated multiple times. Yes, your readers might miss out on the latest and greatest, but it isn't really helpful if the latest and greatest studies in science aren't peer reviewed and backed up well by data.

I feel like a headline "SUGAR IS AS ADDICTIVE AS COCAINE" can and will be life destroying if you don't give enough information. I feel like there should be an ethical responsibility to not sensationalize studies, maybe instead of "SUGAR IS AS ADDICTIVE AS COCAINE" give a headline like "Sugar and Addiction, what science says."

By "party", I mean a physical social gathering of people for the purposes of having fun. It may be used in a sentence as "I am throwing a party!" or "Let's party!".
Basically what I am trying to say is the default "party".

I've never been to any, and I have no idea how people spend their time on parties, so I am curious how you did.

Im in the progress of planning a complete home improvement, where all the interiors is pulled down, floors torn up, and only the shell is intact, before rebuilding everything.

But in the designing process i miss the ease of a drawing tool as autocad that we used in school as an mason apprentice.

So home improvement people, what is a good alternative to autocad, for detailed blueprints and measurements?

I have 10+ messages on Discord

I either want an extension to save discord messages as pdf or one single screenshot.

OR

I want to know if there is a way to export certain messages on discord into pdf or jpg images.

Usecase: I ask doubts on Math discord servers, sometimes it can be concluded in one page (and I can screenshot it) and save it along with the question so I can have a look at it before exams. But some questions take longer discussions. Discord is chaotic and shi**y according to me. I want to have images or pdf locally. So, how would you go by doing this?

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/discord-notebook/ This is a nice add-on which is available for Chrome too. But, it's a pain in the jazz and it really isn't better than a screenshot. I added it here coz I thought some of you might find this helpful.

I could have easily have done a long screenshot with Firefox's screenshot application (in the browser), but discord website won't let me scroll. If you guys can help me with the scroll thing then the problem is solved.

You don’t want to just save the text? It sounds like it’s just text information you want to save, so why not just save it into notes files, then you have the bonus of being able to search them

I am done! I could not find a valid solution, I am just going to include some filters in my ublock origin filters and do my screenshooting

When I was in college, my then girlfriend texted me that she was watching Jojo Rabbit. She knew it was one of my favorite movies, and said that she loved it too. She was talking about how Scarlett Johannson's shoes almost have their own personality. So I said,

spoiler

yeah, it's devastating when you notice her shoes on the hanging body.

Turns out she had paused the movie to make some dinner, and hadn't seen this part yet. Needless to say, she was PISSED!
