Which book should I read that is not overwhelming for a begginer like me?

New Lemmy user here. I have two points of improvement I’d like to note, but am not sure where the actual ‘responsibility’ lies.

1. It would be great to be able to mass-block communities from lists, rather than tiresomely do them one -at-a-time from ‘All’.

It would also be useful to see the list for subscribing, as I don’t know what’s out there until I see it. Sometimes I can’t think of something to search for until I see it.

Perhaps this lies more with individual apps/ clients rather than the Lemmy ecosystem…?

2. May I suggest that communities entirely consisting of bots re-posting Reddit links is, uh, unhelpful?

I found a flight that has a connection in Japan that's cheaper than a direct flight to Japan. Is it legal to take that cheaper flight and leave the airport at the layover location as our final destination? Will they prevent us from taking the return flight?

In short I need a cheap external disc drive and dont want to cough up the 20$ and buy online so thrift store it is. I cant really come up with a way to test these usually usb powered drives besides somehow setting up a computer or asking the workers for help (doubt they will). Does anyone have an idea to narrow down if a drive is defective or should i just take a chance and hopefully the store has a return policy?

I 'upvote' more or less all posts I interact with (sometimes I forget to vote). I feel like we should bring back open dialogues and heavily dissuade people from simply disregarding someone's entire belief system or ideals based on 200 characters of text (an example).

Think about one person in your life who you first thought was a complete asshole and once you got to know them they were pretty cool, maybe you became best friends with them. The point is, judging a person based on a minute snippet in time is a fool's errand, and your own state of mind contributes a lot to your own judgement of people. Your next thought might be, well they have a history of x, y AND z, so they deserve every bit of judgement coming their way! I would ask you, why? Are you not simply fueling further hatred, vitriol and division? So instead of stopping for a moment and thinking about the world from someone else's perspective, you'd rather just spit out some more hatred and move on like that person doesn't exist?

I would love to see some solution to the shitty state of the Internet. I only say Internet because for the most part this doesn't happen in real life in my experience. I think it has to do with consequences and social sigma and so on. I reckon it would be pretty awesome if there was something like the following:

• all upvotes are free range, people can give out upvotes like they were candy
• downvotes come at a "cost", whereby if you want to downvote someone you have to reply directly to them with some justification, say minimum number of characters, words, etc.

In an ideal world, and setup, this would help raise positivity in the world and have people at the very least have a second thought before being negative.

Yes I understand there would be flaws, I've worked with and used computers for a long time, I know. I chose not to delve deep into those as I feel that would defeat the purpose of the message I'm trying to convey. And, you know, lead by example.

What do ya'll think? Any suggestions to boost positivity in the world, I'm all ears, smash them and any other thoughts in the comments.

I know it isn't currently federated, but it seems like a good yt alternative atm.

In recent weeks I have met a pretty and sweet girl with what I consider her only biggest problem: her IQ. She is slow, does not remember things and has no concentration at all, has no arguments, systematically repeats the usual twenty words. (A bit like the character of Forrest Gump, for those who do not know what low iq means). I feel like I like it to go deeper, but I wonder if it's not a mistake. Do you have similar experiences?

I have recently started playing around with logseq. It seems interesting, and hopefully it will help me out with some tasks at work and in private. However I have some issues I need feedback on.

1. How should I turn my notes into a readable report. Currently I'm working on making a list of stuff that's not working in our department at work. So I now have a good list of stuff in #WorkImprovements. But I feel like rearranging some points and edit things a bit. Can this be done easily in logseq? Or is it better to import my notes and write the report in a different program.

2. A lot of my stuff is currently just rambling thoughts in the daily journal. I just wanted to start writing stuff down to play around with the app. But it seems like it can get a bit overwhelming if I continue with this. How do you deal with old notes from finished tasks. Or just rambling ideas that you have moved on from.

Seems like a great program overall. But I clearly need to improve my note taking habits to make full use of it.
