obvious disclaimer, im not celebrating the decline of another game.

i think for far too long, many games have been focused on the short term instead of just making quality content and hoping it works out. OSRS seems to have been to the odd one out for a long time. not trying for limited time promos to lure in new players. no pressuring players with daily logins to artificially inflate active player numbers.

The success OSRS is receiving is definitely well deserved by Jagex and im hoping many gaming companies take notes on what happens when you just focus on quality above all else. This recent migration did not even involve jagex needing to do any marketing or convincing, the quality marketed itself. i remember back then, jagex was desperate to grow player count, focusing on paying streamers to slog through the game for a few streams, when the streamers obviously were just online for money and didnt care for the game. You dont grow a game like that. however, by focusing on content over marketing, they got real organic marketing.

You don't need to do collaborations with every franchise into your game, you need to simply take feedback and engage the community. focus on a strong core gameplay loop, keeping prior achievements relevant, and making updates the get people to log in because it looks fun, not because they fear FOMO.
