https://redlib.catsarch.com/r/stupidpol/comments/1sgxn3g/cdc_delays_publishing_report_showing_covid/

How on earth do the CDC and FDA actually work? They delay vaccine reports that are already fully reviewed and ready to go. With rare disease drugs, they keep rejecting them left and right, changing the rules halfway through, and demanding huge randomized controlled trials... even sham surgery ones, when there are barely any patients to begin with. These families are desperately crying out for help every single day. Their kids are getting worse, suffering in pain, and slowly losing their lives… and the agencies just look away, stay silent, or give some vague excuses. This whole way of working feels so heartless and irresponsible. Where’s the transparency? Where are the actual patients in all of this?

One thing I’ve picked up on from reading the naked capitalism daily links is Covid is way worse than I thought it was.

The caption’s note that “We have rebuilt the entire Robichaux Academy” suggests that the as-yet-unnamed season 13 will bring us right back to that fabled New Orleans school for witches. As for “The Supreme Rises,” as Entertainment Weekly reminds us, Apocalypse revealed that “[Billie] Lourde’s Mallory, an extremely powerful pupil at Robichaux Academy, is destined to surpass Cordelia as the next Supreme.”

Another much-anticipated American Horror Story return is Jessica Lange, as revealed earlier this week also on social media. She last appeared in Apocalypse. Not much is known about season 13’s plot beyond “witches,” so it’s not certain if she’ll be playing Constance Langdon, who Lange won an Emmy for playing in Murder House (and was nominated for playing in Apocalypse), Fiona Goode (who she won an Emmy for playing in Coven), or a different character.

The fact that Paulson is returning as Cordelia—Fiona’s daughter—is maybe a hint, but Fiona also died during the Coven season. So maybe not?

Scientists at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, World Forest ID, University of Sheffield and international collaborators have developed a new technique that can identify where soybeans—the third largest driver of tropical deforestation—are grown to within roughly 200 kilometers, a breakthrough that could transform efforts to stop deforestation linked to global food supply chains.

From the Atlanta Tribune:

By Ben Jealous The subminimum wage for tipped workers is a legacy of slavery. After the Civil War, many employers in hospitality and rail service hired newly freed Black workers into jobs where tips often replaced wages. Tips became, for too many workers, the wage itself. That injustice still lives on today in the form […]The post The Tipped Wage is a legacy of slavery. Chicago is Right to End it. appeared first on Atlanta Tribune.

https://www.discogs.com/release/7550126-Jennifer-Warnes-Famous-Blue-Raincoat-The-Songs-Of-Leonard-Cohen

This is a collection of Leonard Cohen songs, interpreted by Jennifer Warnes. Shoot me if you want but I like this wayyyy more than Cohen’s tired old voice.

Some of these songs are heartbreaking. Jennifer Warnes’ voice is so beautiful!

This edition is also top notch and crystal clear.

I felt bad when someone suggested I go to my college’s foodbank, but then I was encouraged by an employee to. Now i just take a piece of chocolate, sign in, and their funding increases. If they don’t have enough signups, it could even be shutdown, hurting those who need it.

It’s just a cool, easy way to help your community

Once someone reads the wrong meaning into what you said, more explaining usually just makes it messier.

Clear the intent first. Then explain the rest.

For example, if I say something friendly and they take it like I am flirting, I would say,

“No, I did not mean it like that. I was just being friendly.”

That usually works better than a long explanation.

Sometimes one clear sentence fixes the whole tone of the conversation.
